Slim&fast distribution for beginners

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a distribution, that fits the following criteria:
- slim
- fast
- beginner friendly (everything works with gui etc)
- not bloated with a lot of crap nobody needs
- rolling releases
- would be cool if it had lxde
- looks good (unlike windows 95, more like windows 7 if you know what I mean

I know this might be kind of hard, considering that I'm looking for a distribtion that combines advanced stuff like rolling releases and slimness with being beginner friendly, but yes, I hope you guys can help me out here, thanks for your effort

As an example, I thought about something like Arch linux, only that it would have to be a lot more beginner friendly and have lots and lots of guis

I'm not going to do anything funky with it, just normal browsing, watching films & listening to music, creating a pdf and using libreoffice, that's about it.

Lubuntu (LXDE version of Ubuntu) fits all of your criteria except "rolling release."

Rolling release is not really for beginners, but if your heart is set on it, Arch is really the best.

I've taken a look at lubuntu, seems pretty good Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Are there any alternatives to it? I'd like to compare before I choose ^^ thanks

lxde by default simply just looks like win xp panel and stuff, if I recall my experience long back. But it works well.
I don't know if you can make it look like Win 7 or KDE or may be you can using the themes available outside.

I would suggest, Mint-lxde or Lubuntu for starters, however as said above these are not rolling release but they would get the job done without a doubt.

Regards.

Rolling release distros suitable for beginners:
Linux Mint Debian Edition: Mate or Xfce desktop
Fuduntu, Solus: Gnome 2
Swift: Icewm (but you won't like the look!)
