root permission in Knoppix 4.04

Hi there ,

I am a programmer and I want to learn web programming.

I am learning LAMP (Linux ,Apache ,MySQL ,PHP) and I want to wherever I want I can program so that I got a knoppix 4.04 live CD that contains AMP.

But how can I have root permission in knoppix and mySQL?

root is as easy as the command su in knoppix, as for mysql I'm not sure because I only use it on an installed distro. Perhaps start the daemon then

mysqladmin -u root password <password>

Thats how you'd set the mysql root password for mysql on an installed distro. I hate giving advice on something I'm not at least 98% sure about but this being knoppix then fixing a mess up is as easy as shutdown -r now but please, any LQ'ers out there correct this quickly if I'm wrong
