PCLinuxOS .92 D/L Link

Hey guys,

Quick thread to ask where I can find a server that Still hosts PCLinuxOS .92. Yes I know PCLOS .93 is out but I find .92 much better and I was reccomending PCLOS to a friend of mine and saying that he should try PCLOS and that .92 is the best.... (IMO)

I've tried Googleing, various Linux distro sites to no avail can someone reccomend me a link?

Jake

Thanks a bunch pljvaldez,

exactly what I was looking for. Strange though how a guy who can edit Xorg.conf files can't google or search the internet properly! I'm an idiot

No you're not. Google is a great tool but most of the time I have to dig through quite a few posts before I find what I'm looking for. There's just so much information on the web now nad not all of it ever applies. Sometimes I even have to look through the "Talkback" section of articles to find stuff. Luckily, firefox has the "Find" function to help out. In the future, you might also try using www.google.com/linux to help limit the results you get to linux stuff only.

I find it weird that most of the PCLinux OS mirrors don't host the old versions...

The nluug site just doesn't delete stuff. No idea why not. I do find it odd that you find 0.92 better than 0.93a. It could be your hardware. Still, if it ain't broke...

The only problem with 0.92 is that all the graphics stuff is now in the "93" repository, and you won't want to update the kernel either. You cannot add ATi/nvidia drivers, and the DRM stuff which gets 3D out of a number of other video cards will not be added for you, as you'll be stuck with an old version of xorg-x11.

That said, if all you need is an ultra-stable workhorse computer, PCLOS .92 will do nicely. But software additions will aim towards the newer kernel and graphics, and it may be the case that the system becomes unstable over time.

Personally unless you have an overwhelming stability problem with 0.92, I would say use the latest.

For those with 0.92 installations, you need to open "Synaptic" and add "93" to your repository list (ie change "os updates texstar" to "os updates texstar 93"). You then need to update repos and add "xorg-suite". Once done, you can update generally. A kernel update to the latest available, and what you have is, er... 0.93a!
