hi all,
does mint6 work well on the aspire one cos i dont have mine back from repairs yet so i dont know
is there a guide if it doesnt or something???
I use normal Ubuntu on my Aspire One (AOA150-1049).. and it works fine best I can tell. Only thing I know doesn't work out of the box, is wireless, but its quite easy to set up.. and I've never tested the MIC. So it may or may not work.... Sound, Webcam, etc, etc, all appear to work fine. I know there's different aspire ones, thus why I included my model #.. Some of them include a realtek wireless device, which is a pain,. Mine has the AR242x chipset, which is pretty easy.
Post #3 should get your wireless (if you have a wired connect you can use for 5min, if you don't.. it can be done, but you need to download the files before hand)
I went the DebianAcerOne route and so far no problems. Not sure which I model I have, will have to check in to it, but the wireless is AR242x and I have it working. I haven't tried the mic either, but webcam works using Cheese.
Fedora 10 XFCE Spin, with a few optimisations is pretty good on the Aspire One. My 3G card and DVB card just worked with this.
I have the 8GB SSD version , upgraded the memory to 1.5GB, and can boot F10 (excluding the time it takes to click on my username and enter my password) to a working desktop in about 40 seconds. Not as fast as the Linpus - 15 seconds to a desktop from pressing the power button
I installed mint 7 on my aspire one yesterday. Everything worked fine, including the wireless, until I updated and rebooted. Now the wireless does not work, so I'm trying to fix it.
Mint 7 works better than anything else I've tried on my Aspire One (with hard disk and upgraded ram). I've had no problem with it at all. Normally I'd be tempted now to try Moblin, but Mint is working so well I won't be disturbing it.
