Where is the best free web host ?

Ideally, the host would allow java stuff to run, such as www.sakaiproject.org

The traffic to the site would be very small, after a few uploads to get stuff there, not much would get uploaded, and afterwards only a few, small downloads from time to time.

Thank you very much for your ideas!

So what's wrong with the 622,000,000 listed here: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&ie...e+Search&meta=

I realize you are looking for recommendations but why not just check the websites and try one (..or two or three). Hey! They're free!

apparently you have never used free web space. 99% of them put in popups and banners, have no ftp upload and so forth, that's why he's asking.

I only used http://www2.pages.at/hosting/private.php - it's german. They used to have sql, but not anymore. No banners, always available, ftp enabled.

Sure. I have plenty of free space on my web server...

Seriously though, I was not trying to be an ass. It just seems to me that this sort of open-ended question always ends up with twenty different people all saying their solution is the best. Thus the OP is no closer to deciding what is best for him.

A better strategy is to visit one of the meta-sites that list free web hosts, visit their websites, read the features, and post a shortlist of a handful or so that seem to fit the bill. Then with this small sample he can ask here if anyone has some personal experience and can give them a yay or nay...

That's all...
