Lucky for us (hardware &c) evolution is happening.

Selective ideas could be more productive if we'd start with younger minds, stupid parents won't! Though it may eventually increase domestic disputes..? I couldn't find the right episode of The Andy Griffith Show where the farmer won't let his kids go to school because their needed in the fields...

That movie looks good: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/theperfect46

Actually I wouldn't categorize keeping kids home from school to work in the fields as stupid, just shortsighted and a consequence of bad economic policy, including legislation but extending to the mindset that makes getting one's hands dirty seen as demeaning and of low value. We all like to spend less at the grocery store but gouging the farmers is not a sustainable option and certainly unrealistic. How is it more respectable to drive and distribute produce or stock shelves and manage the stock boys and cashiers? Kids must work in the fields because food and shelter trumps everything else and if a farmer can't afford to hire workers due to low profit margins what else can he do but put his children to work. This is especially true if the farmer also expects his children will carry on the family business. It is just crazy that we value, for example, football players over teachers and farmers, but that is the reality.

My crappy English and vaguenesscity strikes again... kids should learn farming at school and home, whether it be home schooled or not.

However, on religious issues there can be little or no compromise.
There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious
beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than
Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being.
But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf
should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing
throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom.
They are trying to force government leaders into following their position
100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a
particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of
money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the political
preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be
a moral person, I must believe in "A," "B," "C," and "D." Just who do
they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the
right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? And I am even more angry as
a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who
thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll
call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every
step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all
Americans in the name of "conservatism."

I, for one, would relish the promise of "being led" by "leaders(!)" who were as "unafraid of their own thoughts" as "Senator Barry (RIP)" was.

No, certainly, "this gentleman was no Saint," but he was possessed of opinions that did not altogether originate from, nor that were altogether purchased by, "multi-national corporations." (... Who, in their incessant quest to "play both ends against the middle," somehow can't quite decide on which Caribbean Island their Corporate Headquarters actually are situated, provided only that, at the end of the day, they pay no taxes ...)

I say, "Please, God, bring back "another generation of SOB's," about which I might say that ... even though I might vehemently disagree with them ... they are at(!) least(!!) willing to call themselves "Americans," versus "who-cares-which-nation-alists," and who are actually willing to both recognize and champion the interests of the (one and only ...) "nation that they purport to govern."

'Please, God, bring to me a Governor who is anything more than "a professional, oil-besotted but good-for-nothing, chameleon."

Please tell me just this one thing (no matter what nation you belong to ...): "is that really too much to ask?"

For once we totally agree. Very well thought out and stated since the Democrats also lost their way. Even though I most often voted Libertarian in the past 36 years at least the "main" parties actually stood for something definitive. It is my sincere hope that this latest fiasco of "lesser of two evils' will result in the demise of the predominance of the 2-Party System in the US.

I dropped my mom, her friend and my aunt off at the state fair today.

My aunt recently retired from the law firm she built with my uncle a retired district attorney. She asked me who I would vote for? My reply: I have not and will never vote for a person, only policies and here is why. We discussed it for the short drive. The gist of it from me was since the dawn of civilization some of the highest regarded philosophers pointed to systems that would create slavery, corruption and murder... now look around. To which she replied, "I'll take your vote then."

Has not worked well for waymore than 2/3rds of the planet in 1,000 years so sheep on! http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ml#post5586555

You don't have to go with the flow!
