The Faith & Religion mega Thread
I'm just curious about the gross distribution of faith or non-faith on a forum like this.
I wasn't quite sure how to divide the list. This could easily grow out of proportion, so I decided to put the 'firm believer' on top. Whether it's Polytheism, Monotheism, or some kind of New Age thing. I know some of you don't like to be mashed together, but it is more about the state of mind than the actual religion that I'm interested in. My thread, my rules :) |
Firm believer, Christian. To be more specific, Wesleyan Armenian.

"Your religion is none of my business"---my most common reply when someone comes to the door promoting their particular faith. Many people--myself included--do not choose to discuss their religion outside their circle of family and friends. Your poll does not provide for this group.

I just realized that the Theist should go above the Deist in terms of faithfulness... sue me.

But you realize that posting this raises curiosity... it's satanism, isn't it? I know I should have added that. But firm-believer applies to you also. :D |
At best, I am an agnostic, but I have my own suspicions about religion; particularly western protestantism/evangelicals. I'm tired of people going door to door trying to convert others to 'their' beliefs. Don't these people have anything better to do? Bloody jehovah's witnesses and such. Gimme a break. Again, I invoke George Carlin when it comes to religion.

Anyway, I suppose I'm a faithful, yet non-practicing Christian. I don't go to church regularly, but I think about God many times a day, and try to do what I think is right. |

Things to say when a person comes to your door and asks if you found Jesus:
"I didn't know he was lost, have you tried the police?" "He's in my living room enjoying a nice chat with Abraham and Muhammed, about how dumb people like you are" "He's tied up in my closet, and now that I told you that I'm afraid I can't allow you to leave" The Forrest Gump answer: "I didn't know we were supposed to be looking for him" Now, as far as pixellany is concerned his beliefs are not the OP's concern or anybody else's except for pixellany and his inner circle only, and thats the way it should be, however christian evangelicals/jehovah's witness/mormon think otherwise. You are not a true christian unless you are part of said sect. This is my main reason for being so suspicious about western christians. Its not enough that I happen to be orthodox christian I absolutely MUST be a baptist, or some other sect in order to be 'saved' As far as I'm concerned, these people couldn't really give :twocents:s about my soul, it is just about how much converts we can get vs the others, thats how I see it and most likely this opinion would offend some, but I'm just tired of being badgered. Sects! Sects! Sects! Is that all the monks ever think about? |

--- But Jeebiz, you pointed out that at least the non-Theists don't wake you up at 10 in the morning  and try to convert you. But why not! I would love to put on a suit, clamp a copy of 'The Origin of Life' under my arm and walk from door to door... Preferrably in some suburban area that the mormons or Jehovas witnesses took over earlier with their blood sweat and tears. "We were wonderng if you had a couple of minutes to talk about thermodynamics and macroevolution." |

There's another one :
Jesus comes ! Look busy ! |
Yes to close that door, so we not only remember them. But we will not have a plague and yellow fever.
|
Oh here is another: "Jesus saves, but Buddha makes incremental backups"
Also, I recommend Monty Python's Meaning Of Life movie. It explains life much better than religion ever did, particularly christianity. :D Monty Python and the Life of Brian is a good laugh too. |
