New pointless war - Folder vs. Directory
Okay, I'm an old timer (DOS 3.2 days). In the "old" days, we knew them as directories. Now, the popular term seems to be folders. I beleive this was adopted from apple, but I can't be sure, because I've rarely touched one. Anyway, the GNOME/KDE and emacs/vi wars have lost steam, so why not start another ridiculous battle? Choose your weapon, grasshopper!
Directory. 'Folder' is a dumb desktop metaphor. Like Wynd, I say/type 'dir' a lot, though.
The whole desktop-metaphor thing is weird. Backgrounds or root window graphics for your GUI makes sense. Who puts *wall*paper on their (vertical) desk*top*, anyway?
The thing is, Whitehat, most people who think of directories as 'folders' don't actually type 'cd' much so they aren't aware of that discrepancy.
