Difference between directory and folder in windows?

Right, I know there's no real difference, but there is a HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder folders key in my registry. What's up with that?

Uh... that post wasn't exactly helpful. Did you see the LABEL? The one that says this forum is for non- linux technical questions?

Please, if you have no constructive reply to give, move onto another post. This is indeed covered in the rules linked at the bottom of every page.

Thank You.

Sorry, I didn't mean to play the bad guy
Just wondered what this post has to do with this forum and thought I made that clear with the "scnr".
I will be more polite in future.

I had to look up what scnr meant :P

Anyway, I'm assuming that the registry is referring to the properties of the display of folders in explorer?

AFAIK there isn't any difference between the two and the registries you are looking at would be for display purposes more than anything.

Folders used to be called directories in the days of MS-DOS. With Windows 95, Microsoft decided on a more "user-friendly" name. Oh, and Windows has special folder types that don't exist as normal folders do; they're really weird COM objects or some other exotic technology from Microsoftland.
