Question how does school lock out computers?

How does the school lockout options on the computer (i.e. access to the c:/ drive, formating the computer, etc)??? I got into the registry and it said there was a manger account whos password cant be changed, the admin account whos password can be changed and all the users (kids). In middle school they used a program called storm windows. but i dont think that is what the high school uses. Also, how can i break this "lock"(i want to change my password becase the school is so gay your password is your last name and some1 can go into your student folder and delete all your shit)?

Also, all the teachers(who are also users i believe) can look at your student folder(a partition of the harddrive which no 1 can access unless they know your password). How can I prevent them from doing this, that is if its possible.

Well first of all I would suggest you familiarize yourself with the School's regualtions and punishments regarding tampering or circumvention of security devices on _their_ PCs. It's common in North America to see students face some severe penalties for what would appear to be innocent 'hacks'.

Why not just bring the failures of the current authentication method (last name as password???) to the people in charge.

If you really don't like the policies, don't use the services.

look, you are NOT gonna get a huge amount of useful replies for these sort of questions that you keep asking... this is NOT a windows site! just because you can put it in the general forum, doesn't mean it's a good place to put it! why don't you just go to a windows site??!! thanks.

Storm Windows was a product that basically created a multi-user environment on a DOS based windows: 95,98,Me where there really isn't one. Where I work it was used to keep the student (college kids) workers from being able to install AIM on the library desk computers and the like. It also made them buggy, more crash-prone than windows normal, and largely worthless for getting actual work done.

Your school now, high school I assume, is probably running win 2k or NT, which have adminstative accounts that can keep a user (you) from being able to do crap with the computer infront of you.

Honestly, never underestimate a public school system's ability to over-react to nothing. If you get nabbed performing this simple little crack and some IT reject (remember these guys that run your machines probably couldn't hack it in the real world, which is why they work for next to nothing for a public school.), the geek talks to your vice-principal in charge of persecution, tells him a pile of fanciful exagerations (that your point-and click gimp of a VP is too luddite to understand anyway), and gets you expelled just because he's bored that day. Remember, its High School, you haven't got any rights, and mere suspicion is conviction, and usually more than enough to screw up your year.

Honestly, if I were stuck in High School right now, I would refuse to use that crap Operating System on moral grounds equivalent to taking the 'F' for refusing to disect the frog.

If you want to do it the right way, tell everyone from the teachers, to the administrators, to the PTA, to the friggin' janitor that their current password schema is idiotic and allows for cheating, screwing each other over, and when in doubt, make up some other crap, they won't understand it much anyway, but they will pretend they do.

And to re-iterate what Kewp pointed out, why are you even bothering with that crap OS. Beg the rents for $100, pick up an old P1, throw RedHat on it, and learn how a computer actually works!

Luck,

Finegan

First the computer is not yours it belongs to the school. The computers are provided to aid in your school work. Which means keeping personal things you don't want others to see off. Maybe it's completely unfair but again it's their computer. I don't think you'll be able to convence those in charge to disallow access to your files by the teachers. However I can see your concerns regarding other students accessing your files. I would argue your point perhaps to the principle. The main thing I would bring up is other students accessing other student files. Maybe as a solution allowing students to change their password. What your wanting to do is bring it up as a potential problem for all. Listen very carefully to what the principle says in response maybe write it down. If your not satisfied go to perhaps the superintendant. Just remember not to loose your temper and keep notes of what was said. No matter what they decide to do it's now become their problem.

Scorcher2005,

This is not an appropriate topic to be discussing.

This site was setup to learn about the Linux operating system and its various flavors and have fun, not to learn about the Windoze system or how to commit illegal, password cracking activities.

Take this to a warez site.
