It doesn't go further than the splash screen No terminal error message, nothing.

CPU peaks at 100% and stays there. No data transfer on the network worth mentioning. RAM stays stable though. It can't be a hardware-related thing: Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.6 GHz, 512MB DDRAM, 256K DSL (Which will render the program a bit slower with loading data, but it should work nevertheless), NVidia GeForce FX5200 (128MB) with installed and working driver.

Kernel problem maybe? Thanks for any help

you have to realize too, that not all places have detailed areas. You'll notice the shades on the 'globe' are different shades comprised of different zoom in details.

In my situation, there was a town outside my city that had high detail, but there was nothing where I lived just a few kilometers away in real life. This is the first release of google earth (windows or linux) that I could actually zoom in on my area, but still not that great of detail, but enough that I could make out the roof top whereas previously my house looked like a spec of dirt.

Not all places have the high quality zoom, so wait as they develop more and I'm sure you'll see updates in your area, whether its a month or a year down the road

Works like a charm on my suse laptop. and yes certain areas of the globe are not that detailed, whether you use linux or win.

I do have to say this is one of those programes you may or may not use a lot, but every linux user should download it. let google know they made the correct decision to do it for us when they see the millions of d/l s. even bog down the servers with the amount of linux users wanting to get it.

I agree, Google should definitely know that we have been waiting for this.

This should have really been in the News forum. Since it wasn't, a thread has been created there. I'm closing this one because it's in the wrong place (!) and to keep the chat in one place.
