Well I got to say it works like a charm here. I'm liking it. They actually updated it too. More details in areas.

I'm running an ancient 800Mhz, 192MB RAM, Geforce2MX box here with Slackware 9.1 and it's absolutely breathtaking. No flickering, graphic bugs or font ugliness. Just a bit of lag (DSL connection). Apart from having to modify it with chmod a+x GoogleEarthLinux.bin it worked out of the box! Impressive

The setup program seems to have failed on amd64
Fatal error, installer failed to run at all!
Guess I'll have to try it on my laptop.

I could not figure it out in SuSe... The BIN file wants to open in gedit! (a text editor from gnome) I thought bin files were for MAC but marsm installed it on slackware!

You need to run it from the command line e.g.
Code:
$chmod +x GoogleEarthLinux.bin
#./GoogleEarthLinux.bin
Some apps in Linux are shipped as bin files.

that chmod did the trick! The program installs and runs fine now but I was disappointed on the detail. From the google web site, I can zoom in to see my house but from the program, all is just a green blur!

Sometimes it works ok for me and other times I just get a green blur. Anyway this is still a beta release, so I am sure things will improve once they get some feedback.

Works fine on my 32-bit box ... Kinda neat to be able to zoom in on my house, but not so great for rural areas. Tried to zoom in on my favorite hunting and fishing spots, and it was less than great. Definitely not good enough to make me delete my USGS bookmark.

YAY, Google Earth is fun and I'm glad it's available for Linux. I would have just written "yay", but wrote all that other crap cos of the minimum character limit.

If any slackware users out there would prefer to have it sensibly integrated into their package system, (well, mostly sensibly anyway) check out my Google Earth Slackbuild.
