FireFox 1.5 release when?

according to the BBC it is supposed to be Nov. 29th, that is today, but the getfirefox.com web page is still pointing to 1.0.7 and the 1.5 is still in beta form.

They are probably still finalising the release and making sure that mirros sync to reduce the strain on the main download servers.

Lol I won't see a Mandriva package for a while. Probably not until next major release!

Don't they have a generic binary installer for the new one as yet? The download points to a .tar.gz file which I assume is a source.

yes that would be the source. if you are comfortable with it, then you can, but one draw back if you are accustom to yum or apt, is you will not be able to upgrade it via those 2 package managers wtihout having issues with the source install.

im not skilled enough yet to work with that so i too will wait for yum and apt to come out with the repository for the new 1.5. excited i am.

Oh, I know I can use the source, and I will once I get time to fiddle with it this weekend, maybe. I have 3 machines to upgrade to it. The beta 2 is working nicely for now though.

I was more commenting on the slow turnaround for mandriva-specialized packages on urpmi mirrors

just out of curiousity, someone above mentioned that there would be problems upgrading to a .deb file from source. Is there any way to uninstall the source, then use the .deb(or .rpm)? Sorry if I seem ignorant, I've only ever used .debs
