I haven't paid any attention to MTV since Martha Quinn left.
When they put on their first "programming," they stopped being MTV to me. Just as CNN is "News in name only," likewise MTV. I say that because I was there when the concepts were first launched.
MTV played music videos back-to-back with a traditional "DJ" (call 'em "VJ") format. Meanwhile, CNN played a news program 24 hours a day every 1/2 hour. It had no political commentary of any kind; just reporting. If you listened to the program twice and updates had arrived, the coverage in the repeat would not be the same as the first.
There was nothing like either of these two ideas ... and, today, the
brands are still around but the programming appears to be gone for good. I miss it.
