Unable to listen/watch music/videos at various websites

I am getting a bit frustrated here. I decided to start listening to music online more, something I haven't done for sometime now. I tried yahoo, I get a message aying that I need Windows Media Player, ok, fine. I go to Netscape. I can watch videos but everytime I try listening to music I get this message:
"template_path is /home/app/appserver-current/templates/oldlargeaudio-mac-real, not found!"
I don't have a mac.
Winamp is out of the question. MTV and VH1 needs Windows Media Player, so do a few other popular places. I can listen to unsigned artists at soundclick.com but I can't watch the videos. Realplayer.com is fine but It is a bit sad if this is the only place I can go. Not to mention if I want to watch some old movies or TV shows online I can't. I haven't found any that use Realplayer or a Linux player, the ones I found need Windows Media Player. Even if I have a linux player that supports these files the website won't let me play them.I love Linux but this is getting annoying.

Is there more then this for music and videos?

personally i'd suggest using mplayer for playback of 95% of all media you'll come across online. also use the mplayerplug-in pakage to embed it into your browser. you'll be able to listen to mtv just fine.
