$200 fully linux-compatible 1080P 14" laptop

So, just wanted to throw this out there. Just bought this laptop, and installed Arch on it. Every piece of hardware worked out of the box, with no issues. The touchpad works GREAT, even multitouch. The wifi card includes Bluetooth. The keyboard is nice, not the best, but also far from the worst I've used on laptops. On sale right now $200, and has a big beautiful 1080P IPS LCD (non-touch). Obviously, AMD E2 isn't the fastest, or the most efficient, but if you're looking for a super inexpensive laptop that can easily put up with everyday computing, this is a fantastic machine. I'm super happy with it so far.

Nice! How do you feel about the 32GB eMMC drive's performance? Does it take a while to open up Firefox or Chromium?

Firefox, yes. But then, that's also true on my 6th gen core-i7 w/ 512 GB m.2 SSD, firefox performance, IMO, is simply abysmally bad in linux.

Chromium opens quickly and runs very acceptably. ~15 seconds from power on to desktop (autologin). Can easily run with 6-7 tabs open, haven't tried more than that.

I don't know what your standards are, then! Firefox opens in maybe 2 seconds on my Fujitsu T5010 Core 2 Duo P8700 2.4Ghz - which is a MUCH slower CPU than that fancy Core i7. And my drive is an unremarkable 30GB 2.5" SSD. Chromium opens up in a flash, though.

But I also have other computers running off of spinning hard drives, and even (very sluggish) USB2.0 thumbdrives. On them, it's a lot easier to notice the differences in how long it takes Firefox and Chromium to load. One of my T5010's has a mediocre 5400rpm 2.5" drive, but otherwise has identical specs to my main T5010. I have to wait a good while for either Firefox or Chromium to load up. Same if I boot up a T5010 on a USB2.0 thumbdrive install.

So, if you're comparing the performance of opening up Firefox on this budget laptop with your i7 machine, I suppose it must be nice and fast (by my standards). My worry was if the eMMC SSD felt sluggish on the level of a USB2.0 thumbdrive install. Clearly not. So, thanks!

(All of my machines are running Debian 8 Jessie and XFCE4 desktop.)

Yeah, I just hate Firefox anymore. Doesn't matter what machine I run it on, it just seems so slow to start, so slow to load pages, so slow to shutdown. I will only use it for a few pages that absolutely have issues with chromium, other than that I refuse to touch it except to test each time it updates if it's any better. I expect once electrolysis starts getting enabled, that'll all change, but for now, I loathe using Firefox on any machine I own as it's so slow compared to Chromium.

As far as the raw speed of eMMC, they're better than USB 2.0 in my experience, but definitely NOT on the level of a true SSD. I've had 5 or 6 laptops now that used them (I may change hardware a little too often), and they're quite acceptable performance IMO for their price.

Just to test, I just booted up and force-enabled electrolysis, and am using firefox with 3 tabs open with no real performance issues. Was usable much faster, and I can actually open a new tab while one is thinking.
