X Server working, but can't startx remotely

I remotely SSH into my FC5 box, using a PC workstation with SecureCRT and eXceed. The basics seems to work, because if I start xclock from my SSH client, I see the graphical clock on my PC in a new windows (so X serving ok).

However, when I try "startx", I see a bunch of message onscreen (no major errors) but the graphical desktop never starts. Any ideas? The screen message are below.

Thanks,
MD

Why would you want to? You already have X running locally, you can't start it again. And if you try to run "startx" remotely, it will try to start the GUI physically on the remote machine, which is not what you want.

I want to see the graphical desktop on my remote PC. (Ideally KDE) How would I do that?

whenever using ssh, use the -X flag for X forwarding. then you can run apps on remote computers, locally. Here is an example.

ssh -Xl username hostname

You can also change the configuration file of ssh, so that x forwarding is enabled everytime you ssh without having to give the -X flag. If you want to see the entire desktop with ssh, run this command after you are connected with ssh and have X forwarding.

startx -- :1

You need to start X on display :1 because you probably already have X running on display :0.
