problem with yum: base repositories not opening

Hi!

I'm using yum 2.6.0 on fc5 and I have a problem with installing softwares, can't open/read repomd.xml

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
dries [1/5]
dag [2/5]
base [3/5]
http://fedoralegacy.west.mirrors.air...ta/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] HTTP Error 404: Date: Sat, 06 Dec 2008 08:07:19 GMT
Server: Apache/2.0.54 (Fedora)
Content-Length: 397
Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1
Trying other mirror.
Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: base
failure: repodata/repomd.xml from base: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
Error: failure: repodata/repomd.xml from base: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

I encountered similar problem with dag but I googled and found mirror and put it on yum.conf file, and for base I did the same thing but I wonder that it doesn't work for base repository even if I can open the link to repomd.xml manually with a web browser. Any idea why this error is still there even if I found the mirrors?

Is the repo still maintained? When does legacy drop support

Legacy support is no more. Fedora only supports any one version for about 13 months. The current versions are F9 and F10 (F8 support is dropped Jan 7). Please switch to a supported version.

In the past Fedora has always left the old repos open but not updated. A few months ago there was a security concern and a new GPG key was made. The packages for non-supported versions were not re-keyed and the older key packages were removed for security reasons.
