Wireless interface starts UP, wicd puts interface DOWN when trying to connect

I'm on a deb 7.1 install, using wicd for the network management. The device starts up, I can scan through networks and see what APs are around. When I try to connect to one the device goes down and stays down, and it doesn't come up until I cancel the connection attempt.

I went through the wicd.log and it brings the interface down, wipes the routing table, and releases any dhcp IPs, then it says it tries to bring the interface back up and moves right along to trying to generate PSK and validate it all but it never actually brings the interface back up. Can't figure it out, as it was just working yesterday prior to shutdown.

Log file here

Only the pertinent info is in the log.

Actually I just figured out that having network-manager running was the issue. I'm using openbox, and installed network-manager as a sort of backup for wicd. The issue that prompted me to install it was wicd terminates/doesn't allow the connection if it's below 30%, whereas network-manager will.

Would you happen to know how to set up network-manager (nm-applet, nmcli, whatever) in such a way that it would not conflict with wicd?
