yes that worked but now it's a read only filesystem
in my fstab it says

/dev/hda2 /mnt/fat32 vfat defaults,umask=0022 0 0

fixed using knoppix 3.3 and playing around. Mods, go ahead and close this thread it ended up with the fstab reading
