Make sure you have the sources for your kernel installed. (hint: this might be a good time to transfer your system to the new 2.6 kernel

Doing a kernelbuild remotely is technically certainly possible, but I won't recommend it as you may end up driving to the ISP-facility to reboot and/or rescue your system...
