Problem: SCSi CD drive disappeared during installation
Hi,
I'm just starting with Linux and chose Debian (a lot of support etc.)
I'm installing Woody on my 3rd HD (/dev/hdc). The first is a SCSI HD, both my CD-ROMS are SCSI.
Now: booting from CD to install Debian starts off well.
But: when the installation procedure wants to start installing the kernel, no CD is listed as a installation medium.
WHY?
How can I repair this?
Thanks,
Rick
You should try using the new Sarge installer: http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimag...86-netinst.iso (assuming you have a i386 platform). Images for other platforms are here: http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ Woody is very out of date with hardware support, and the new installer is many times better than the one from Woody. Sarge will be released as Debian stable very soon anyhow.
Ok,
However, I liked to see the Woody version also. Then I can make a good comparison.
Having used Unix frequently about ten years ago, it's nice to see such an interest in Linux.
I'll go for Sarge.
Thanks,
Rick
I tried Sarge Test version. Installation went well. The installer sees all the drives.
However, the automatic boot of the system does not work. My system starts Windows 98 all the time. I downloaded and burnt a system recue disk (systemrescuecd-x86-0.2.15.iso) but I don't know how I can repair the booting procedure. For the Woordy version I had made a boot floppy. However this does not work with the current version of the kernel ('kernel panic' message), and I don't know how to make a boot floppy for Sarge. Any clue how I can get Grub to work? my sda1 is my boot disk, hdc3 is my /boot partition.
Greetings,
Rick
