Installation SCSI Problem

I'm installing redhat9 on a server with 3 30g HP scsi drives in it. When i try and cfdisk before installing, it says that i cannot write to the disk. it doesn't even bring up the cfdisk menu. Just errors out and exits. I've tried 'cfdisk /dev/sda1 through sda4' but still nothing. Is there something i have to trigger? I have a sym scsi card. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That kind of made me think you were talking about Red Hat.

Now those three drives, are they in a RAID array?

Yes. On boot, it finds one logical drive which makes me think it's a hardware raid. When i installed redhat (god forbid) it found one disk: /dev/sda1

Any other ideas? How should i start the raid and/or enable write permissions so i can crfdisk this thing!

I appreciate the help thus far.

I have only installed Slack on RAID devices in Compaq Proliant machines, so I don't know if this is going to work on your machine.
After booting from the cd-rom make sure you select the raid.s kernel. In most cases the drive you want to partition is /dev/ida/c0d0, another possibility would be /dev/rd/c0d0.

good luck!

P.S.

Another thing to consider: /dev/sda1 through /dev/sda4 are partitions, not disks. You might want to try cfdisk /dev/sda or cfdisk /dev/sdb etc.

I find a cup or two of coffee to be most efficacious on those early mornings.

Enjoy!

... and also make sure you have an array built (via the Compaq diagnotics/setup - a.k.a. the F10 button on boot) so that you'll have a place for your slackware.
