Mplayer wont play dvds

hi, when I start Mplayer to watch a dvd I get this error "error opening initializing the selected video_out". I have w32codecs and libdvdcss, and the audio from a dvd movie will play, but not the video. I went to my /etc/mplayer.conf file, but everything in it is commented out. So what should I put in there or how do I fix this?

Thanks.

More than likely the file you need to edit will be in a hidden folder in your home directory. If you are using KDE look in your /home/username/.kde/share/config folder for a file named kmplayerrc. Make a backup of this file before making any changes.

You can get a listing of the video output arguments with "mplayer -vo help". For example, suppose your kernel has fbdev support. You could use "mplayer -vo fbdev2 <video>". The error you get deals with the video output driver and not a codec problem.

You might want to find a -vo <argument> settings that works and edit your personal ~/.mplayer/config settings. The mplayer man page has a couple examples of config settings.
