MPlayer will not play DVDs

I tried to watch my American History X DVD his morning with Mplayer.

I put the DVD in, and:
Code:
[slackbox ~] mplayer dvd://1
MPlayer 1.0pre5-3.2.3 (C) 2000-2004 MPlayer Team

CPU: Intel Pentium 4/Xeon/Celeron Northwood 2398 MHz (Family: 8, Stepping: 3)
Detected cache-line size is 64 bytes
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1

Can't open input config file /usr/local/etc/mplayer/input.conf: No such file or directory
Falling back on default (hardcoded) input config

Playing dvd://1.
Reading disc structure, please wait...
There are 5 titles on this DVD.
There are 34 chapters in this DVD title.
There are 1 angles in this DVD title.
libdvdread: Invalid title IFO (VTS_01_0.IFO).
Cannot open the IFO file for DVD title 1.

Exiting... (End of file)
I thought that perhaps it was just that DVD. I put in the Matrix Revolutions DVD:
Code:
Playing dvd://1.
Reading disc structure, please wait...
There are 10 titles on this DVD.
There are 33 chapters in this DVD title.
There are 1 angles in this DVD title.
libdvdread: Invalid title IFO (VTS_01_0.IFO).
Cannot open the IFO file for DVD title 1.
Same error.
I reinstalled libdvdread and libdvdcss and tried again.
Same error.

Anyone know what I can do to fix this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Code:
The source can't be read.
Maybe you don't have enough rights for this, or source
doesn't contain data (e.g: not disc in drive). (Error reading
NAV packet.)
I get that error when trying to play the DVD in Xine.
It also prints this to the console:

I tried running it as root and got the same error; it's not a permission problem.

I have gotten this error before you have to use one of the optimization flags in mplayer i dont know what they are at the moment but when i get home ill look cause i have this on my LFS system. you have to put a 1 or a 2 or something otherwize it just spits this error.

Also check your dev directory and make sure you have a /dev/dvd

if not make a link to your cd rom device and it should work

/dev/dvd is set up correctly to access the DVD drive.
If you can tell me how to solve this, my friends and I will be forever in your debt. ;P
