dpkg: trying to overwrite `/bin/chgrp', which is also in package coreutils

Hello, I am new to Debian and am having problems upgrading using apt. In January I installed Sarge. Now I run apt-get dselect-upgrade and get this error:

Code:
Reading Package Lists...
Building Dependency Tree...
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  fileutils
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B/710kB of archives.
After unpacking 1974kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] (Reading database ... 12031 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking fileutils (from .../fileutils_4.1-10_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/fileutils_4.1-10_i386.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/bin/chgrp', which is also in package coreutils
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/fileutils_4.1-10_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

You can probably get it to work with:
Code:
dpkg -i --force-overwrite /var/cache/apt/archives/fileutils_4.1-10_i386.deb

The command worked, and nothing blew up right away, so it must have worked. Thanks!

what causes the problem? i did the --force-overwrite too, and a long scary list of warnings came up, but like he said, nothing blew up...
