Customizing keyboard layout

Hi all,

I am using Dvorak layout right now. I want to swap the BACKSPACE key with the = key (it's ] in the QWERTY layout). After I change the two lines in /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.dvorak:
keycode 22 = BackSpace Delete
keycode 35 = equal plus
to
keycode 22 = equal plus
keycode 35 = BackSpace Delete
my keyboard won't produce + when I press Shift and the BACKSPACE but I think it should.
You can have a try. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

A lot depends on where you are trying to modify the keymap. A decent looking guide I found is here:

I have to read many techdocs to swap just 2 keys.
If it could be a little easier for a non-geek ...
