ATI Radeon 9600XT

I have an ATI Radeon 9600XT video card, and I am running Debian-Sid with kernel 2.6.10-1-386. I followed the instructions to install the "fglrx" driver, word for word.

When I completed the process [with no errors at all] I restarted the Xserver and got this error:

(EE) fglrx(0): R200PreInit failed
(EE) fglrx(0): Screen(s) found, but non have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

I think this has something to do with using the kernel's AGPGART driver, which is not picking up my video card.

Any ideas?

A screen is the combination of your video card, monitor and resolutions that display your picture. If none have a usable configuration, it is likely there's a silly setup in the XF86Config file, eg: 1600x1200 resolution when your monitor can only support 1024x768.

Look through /etc/X11/XF86Config (or Config-4) and see if what you've got makes logical sense. Even if you have no clue about most of the file, the screens section is pretty self-explanatory.
