I just did my first Debian install about 48 hours ago and have been trying to get things working since. I have never used apt-get, been using Suse with Yast for a while. I seem to be having problems, I downloaded the Debian 3.0.2r iso. Everything seems old on it, Gnome 1.4, Kde 2.2, Mozilla 1.0 and a few more. I have tried apt-get upgrade, apt-get update and every other command I can think of to update these items and it tells me packages are up to date. I know there are more to up date versions of this software. What am I doing wrong?
you'll have to edit your sources.list to include the testing branch if you want the newest packages. and the unstable branch if you like to live on the edge
Thanks! I was wondering abut that. I just put Debian on an old box to check it out and living on the edge will not make a difference on that machine. I will do that. I think it is in the /etc/apt/sources file.
