There are no alsa-module packages needed with a 2.6 kernel the modules are now part of the kernel itself. You now need only install the alsa-base and alsa-utils packages then as root run the alsaconf to have it detect your card.
Tkx for the reply.
I have done all this :lspci -v card is detected .Its a sound blaster.
installed alsa-base,alsa-utils,alsamixer etc
Ran alsaconf ,it does not detect card/driver.
Have gone to kernel-image 2.6.11-1-k7 from Testing although my system is Stable.
Alsaconf now detects the card/driver system but still no sound.
Card has a proven alsa driver snd-ca0106 which is the selected one.
Is there something i can put my crowbar to and lever it into place.
I am using Gnome Desktop by the way as the USB set up works out
of the box.(no hassle there).
Tkx in advance for any help.
Tkx for the info ref the mixer/volume comtrols, have rechecked and they
are ok.
Something very basic is adrift and i cannot see it.Maybe time for the hammer.
