thx. it helped you're all awesome

yet now i have other problem.

music players seem to hang. i tried lots of em (xmms, alsaplayer, mplayer, noatun) all of em seem to hang during playback without any reason. after killing them ans restarting they play for a while and hang again ... i've changed my kernel to a precompiled debian package one.. used module-assistant to compile alsa modules for it and the hanging problem continues.. any ideas ? plz help

You need to not build the modem driver

Hi,

I just hit this problem as well. It seems there is currently a bug in the ALSA drivers in Linus' kernel tree that prevents the audio driver from working if the AC97 driver is built for the modem.

Miles
