The Music
Hi all! So, it's been really quiet over in my neck of the woods, so I thought I might reflect on what silence means to me. Bit of a sparse connection, but I did warn you that I can be random in the blog description. Really random. I like nachos. That aside, for me, silence has a unique beauty to it, like that of a blank canvas. Like, at first glance, the canvas is just a canvas. But I look again, and I think of all of the beautiful things that could someday be painted on that canvas, the elegant lilts, delicate swirls of color. In this way, a blank canvas is a work of art all its own. Likewise, as silence fills the ear, the mind is abuzz with the kajillions of half-baked ideas that could someday materialize. You think, someday, that this is the same silence that could introduce the new president of the US with bated breath as the voting results come in. It's the same silence that heralded Martin Luther King's revolutionary "I Have a Dream" speech, and that washed across America as they learned that JFK was assassinated. You listen to silence, and you are basking in the thousands of moments of silence held during times of mourning, but also the complete absence of sound right after a surprise appearance by a musical performer, but before the crows roar until your ears bleed. For me, silence is the blank canvas. It is my Music.

Are you familiar with John Cage's composition 4'33"? I have read about it but have never actually heard it performed (ha ha); and now that I have developed tinnitus, I guess I never will.

I took piano for years. That one is my best ever piece.
