How does it sound?

I have decided to try my hand at writing short stories, and I'd love it if you could maybe offer some input, ie what you like, what you think should be improved. Anyway, enough yammering. Here's my story, part 1!
It was truly a sight to behold. An indigo sky, bejeweled with sparkling gems that twinkled lovingly as they danced across the sky. And under this masterpiece of the heavens, in the suburbs of Seattle, was a girl who was going through hell.
Her name was Selena.
She was 15 years old.
Sprawled in a grass-filled backyard, she lay staring up at the wonderous skies. And it was as she stared that tears welled up in her eyes.
"Why, why me, of all people!?" sobbed Selena.
"Of all those people it could've been, why in hell was it me?"
She sat up, sighing. Obviously there was no point in moping around any longer, she thought, and so she stood and walked back into the house, face in hands. Selena was almost at the door when she heard a huge crash and the world was all a blinding, luminous white...then the world was lost to her as she collapsed on the porch.
