Re-Read some old ee doc smith books that as a kid I thought was the bomb.

    Quote:
The action in Gray Lensman picks up immediately where Galactic Patrol left off, in the middle of the battle to destroy Helmuth's Main Base and, it is hoped, fully end the threat of Boskone. After the base falls, Kinnison finds some clues that lead him to think that Helmuth was perhaps not the head of Boskone after all. The clues lead Kinnison to mount an expedition aboard the newly constructed super-dreadnought Dauntless, into the Second Galaxy where he thinks the true head of Boskone might reside. The Dauntless locates a planet under attack and comes to its aid, destroying the Boskonian forces and discovering that the entire planet is capable of going "free" (that is, inertialess, the method used in the Lensman books to achieve interstellar and intergalactic space travel). The Lensman returns to the First Galaxy with the space-faring planet and its grateful residents.

Then moved on to King Kull of Valusia

    Quote:
Kull of Valusia was the greatest king of the Pre-Cataclysmic Age, and a central individual of his time, much like Conan the Cimmerian some 8,000 years later.[2] He lived circa 18,500 BC,[citation needed] and was originated from barbaric Atlantis.[2]

He would face many enemies, including the Commorians,[citation needed] the Elder Race sorcerers Thulsa Doom[2] and Tuzun Thune,[5] the Serpent Men,[2] Ohris Dehjmal and his followers,[6][7][8][9][10] among others.

To serve and assist him were his court: Brule the Spear-Slayer (the Pictish ambassador to the court), the elderly councilor Tu, the minstrel Ridondo, Count Murom Bora Ballin, the philosopher-slave Kuthulos, the Pictish ancient Ka-Nu,[2] as well his friend from his slave years Bakas,[10] but he had other allies, such as his fellow tribesman Om-Ra.[3]

He would became a legendary king during the Hyborian Age[11] and into at least the 2nd century AD,[12] and a fiction character from stories of Robert Howard wrote.[13]

I liked most of the of E.E.Doc Smith books that I read. No cringe there ... save for that one where he broke the scientific credibility by having a diesel-powered spaceship. Before you ask, I forget which one save that it was a Lensmen book. I don't have that book any more.

From the prior reply, the King Kull series sounds of interest.
