Gone back to Windows again

Seems like a long time ago I said I would return to Windows, Jan 2010 to be closer.
Well, it didn't last long back then but I have gone back to Windows again.
This time it looks like I'm staying with Windows after over 10 years of only Linux. I was a huge advocate for Linux and spouted the message a'high. I initially learned a lot here at LXQ to get over the hurdles that are placed on everything Linux.

Love Linux... NOT

The never ending config continues...

Tried to get surround sound going on Buntu 10.04. After about TEN hours I give up. It is so complicated with workings from here to Xmas and beyond. It really is a joke to keep it so messed up. I tried two sound cards.
Pulse is a complete mystery. If you install some pulse tools you have multiple entries in the menu all for the same peice, PulseAudio.
There's Alsa, Pulse and a host of other sound servers configs and things to keep...

a killer ap

what might go down well for linux in general is a killer application that, pulls together and can play medias, read/write email, with messaging, tv and video phone, has some games. But uses a new base of codecs that will run on anything and be cross platform. It would have to be fantastic and 'must have' software even for windows users.
But would have a special licence that it be given away and/or included free to any linux distro, but for windows it would not be free and have to be purchased...

Nvu web editing

Web editing has just become a lot easier now that I´ve opened Nvu the Linux web editor. Now at Version 1.0.

On first glance it seems nice and up to date. A site manager on the left side allowed me to add a couple of existing sites, setting the http address and the local site storage or test server.

The first page I opened was one I had difficulty in Dreamweaver with. The header table was shifting an image down and I could not find what was doing it. But one look at...

Hmmm, a blog.
Ten years on the net and this will be a first.
If anyone else actually reads this, good luck, I hope you gain from your time.

As a first entry; I am right this minute doing an online update to a brand new WinXP install.
This has gone all too well i.e. XP install @ 40mins then SP2 install @ 1hr20mins. Then antivirus and firewall and now the online update. I started at 3pm, it's now 5:51pm.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE...
