what might go down well for linux in general is a killer application that, pulls together and can play medias, read/write email, with messaging, tv and video phone, has some games. But uses a new base of codecs that will run on anything and be cross platform. It would have to be fantastic and 'must have' software even for windows users.
But would have a special licence that it be given away and/or included free to any linux distro, but for windows it would not be free and have to be purchased at the market rate, say a hundred dollars. The returns would go to marketing linux in the media. Get linux, it does all this!
