18 years of DEBIAN starting from version 5 "Sid" until the recent 10 "Buster".
Before that done 6 years of system administration including a SCO UNIX Server and a couple of Windows Servers and dozens of workstations. The largest system was nearly 100 PC's, devices etc. at 3 locations with LAN and VPN's, Firewall and Phone via landline and VoIP.

This is another update on last years laptop now with Debian 9.5 in 64bit with KDE

Got a bit of issues with KDE and decided that a complete re-install was the best way. Used Debian 9.5 with a Netinst CD-ROM. (for simplicity and speed - I had no time to fumble and make the network and stuff work via the terminal. Burning a CD and booting to the installer was way quicker and a complete install gets rid of...

Nice laptop. Nice large screen, keyboard with num block, touchpad. Intel processor and 4 GB of RAM.

EPSON Perfection 4490 Photo Flatbed Scanner

This is a USB scanner and has no network connection.
The information showed to be valid as of 04/2020 and has been working on:

Debian 8 Jessie - no further requirements
Debian 9 Stretch - no further requirements
Debian 10 Buster - needed symbolic link and manual libsane rule

This installation is using the proprietary (non-free) EPSON drivers available at their support site.

Major disk trouble DRDY ERR and UNC error

Just happened:

Got a nasty error on my laptop running Debian Squeeze. Unable to boot further than initramfs with errors preventing the file system from mounting.

Nasty bugger. Seems to be a bad sector on my HDD. Causes several attempts to read and finally fails with
DRDY ERR and subsequent UNC error triggering the errors:
unable to mount rootfs etc.

Now trying with the installer CD-ROM in recovery mode. A bit nasty as I have unsaved data...
