My passtimes ... a) cooking & entertaining
So, I purchased an oven 2 weeks back, and have made two cakes by now (banana cake, and a plain one).
Question: How do you peel zest without peeling inner white filling? Any special techniques for it?Posted 02-23-2012 at 05:30 AM by Aquarius_Girl -
My passtimes ... b) tramping (No, not loose women. Hiking!)
Quote:Hi Tinkster,
After your helpful comments I checked out your blog. Let's hear it for tramping! I get out every other weekend for slog up one mountain or another. I've just returned from a month of walking around the Monte Rosa, on the border between Italy & Switzerland. Got snowed into my bivvy sac at 2800m (~10 000ft) above Zermatt ... decided I needed a tent ... in fact just ordered myself a Hilleberg from Bentgate.com (incidentally they have a 15% off coupon until the 28th: code turkey11)
Regards
M
Longest I've ever done was 8 days so far, I could imagine carrying enough for
maybe 2 weeks, but a month ...
Pray tell how your tent works out!Posted 01-19-2012 at 06:03 PM by Tinkster -

gloves for my feet!!
Sorry for the late response, I rarely find the time to blog, or check for comments; they're not sturdy at all - that's the whole idea behind them. I'd be happy to wear them for two months, and I feel that they'd do a better job in the bush than they do in an urban environment (and I'd expect them [their soles, anyway] to last longer there).
They won't last as long as my tramping boots (Meindl), but they are also just a quarter of the price. If I only wear them tramping, and that's maybe 20 days a year if I'm lucky, I reckon I should get a good life-span out of them. That all said: I don't think I'd try alpine or winter tramps, just because of the risk of frost bite.Posted 07-25-2011 at 04:19 AM by Tinkster -
gloves for my feet!!
These feet gloves intrigue me. I've read the other 2 parts, and am curious to know ... Are they sturdy? They look a little on the 'flexible' side, Presumably to maintain a certain degree of comfort, But if you where to be lost in the woods, are these the shoes you want to wear for the next 2 months?
I hitch-hiked for a number of years, and I am big on well-built clothing (this includes footwear) that can be used for a long time, and still handle various terrains without compromising their structural integrity ... You tell me they are sturdy, and I'm looking into getting some!Posted 06-25-2011 at 04:13 AM by Hevithan -

My Mom taught me at a young age to never write down anything you don't want anyone else to see, and for the most part, I've followed that advice.
Not too reign on your parade though -- sorry. Maybe I'm weird. O.oPosted 02-03-2011 at 03:22 AM by lupusarcanus

I'm pleased to hear that you enjoyed the recipe, and that
it helps your family as well. And I didn't realise that people
actually read (& responded) to the blog - hence the very
late response.Posted 02-01-2011 at 10:27 AM by Tinkster -

My passtimes ... b) tramping (No, not loose women. Hiking!)
Turns out the weather WAS atrocious, and the forecast was wrong;
instead of "the odd shower" it started raining at ~ 10am on Saturday,
and didn't stop till Monday lunch-time.
I was thinking about staying at the hut after hours of walking in
the pouring rain, but the hut (which sleeps 18) already had 23 people :}
So pitching the tent in the rain it was. Tent is good, too, easy to
set-up, and water proof. Not quite well enough ventilated for some-
one waterlogged and steaming, so there was a fair bit of condensation
going on, but not unbearable.
On the way in I managed to keep my feet pretty much dry till
almost at the hut, and on the way out 8 of the stream crossings
were "oil change" for the boot material, with two of them being
reasonably difficult to achieve.
Oh, the tent, for those into tramping, is an

gloves for my feet!!
Is that why people stomp all the time? So annoying! it's like they are trying to make you hear them walk... especially on the second floor. I never walk like that.
Either way, the shoes look neat, now I want a pair!Posted 01-19-2011 at 07:06 PM by lumak
