Linksys Etherfast 10/100

Hi there,
I'm looking to install FreeBSD/OpenBSD - haven't decided yet, but does anybody know if there are any drivers for the Linksys Etherfast 10/100 PCMCIA networking card?

Thanks,

Chris

Have you tried reading their respective websites ( www.freebsd.org www.openbsd.org )? Both have lists of supported hardware.

Yup. Sorry, didn't write back, found them anyhow. The card is supported, however I'm now a little lost.

I downloaded the floppy34.fs I believe it was called, and it boots up correctly etc. I select

'I' for install

...go through the options etc until I get to the

>

Then I'm stuck. I've tried several methods but just can't seem to partition the disk correctly.

I've printed off their 29 page manual (this is OpenBSD by the way), and it tells you how to do it, but either it doesn't work correctly for my system (which I doubt) or I'm reading it wrongly.

h will bring up the help screen
p will print the current partition table

Which part of it do you seem to be having problems with?

Hi, here's how it goes:

- Start laptop

- Loads off floppy disk

- Get message "Install, Upgrade or Shell?"

- Select Install

- "Terminal type" - press enter

- "Do you wish to select a keyboard encoding table?" - press enter

- Backup warning appears, "Proceed with install?" - press y then enter

- "Available disks are: wd0. Which one is the root disk?" - I type wd0 and press enter

- "Do you want to use *all* of wd0 for OpenBSD?" - I type y and press enter

- ">" appears to type in the neccessary commands

- I press "p" and get the following:

Quote:
device: /dev/rwd0c
type: ESDI
disk ESDI/IDE disk
label: TOSHIBA MK1214GA
bytes/sector: 512
sectors/track: 63
tracks/cylinder: 16
sectors/cylinder: 1008
cylinders: 16383
total sectors: 23579136
free sectors: 0
rpm: 3600

16 partitions:
# size offset fstype [fsize bsize cpg]
c: 23579136 63 4.2BSD 0 0 0
From what I can tell, that looks fine, however fsize bsize and cpg are 0. Is this correct?

Also it says 16 partitions but only lists C:

Ok, if all this is now correct, where do I go from here?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

http://www.openbsd.com/faq/faq4.html

You need to continue the install and setup the partitions...starting where you left off

>d a "deletes the a partition as displayed below
> a a "creates the new partition"
Since you already have c "which is default" you can start by creating "a"
hence

> a a
then
>a b
>a d
and so on.... The link to the faq above in the subject line is a great step by step of the installation process for OpenBSD.
