Help With Console Display at Startup

I have an ATI IGP chipset on my Compaq V2607 Laptop. I want to be able to get a high resolution console in ZenWalk. I've tried editing lilo and setting VGA to 795 which is 1280x1024x16million colors but it doesn't work, neither do lower settings, such as 1024x768.

Am I doing something wrong here?

I'm a noob so any help would be appreciated.

I'm running ZenWalk 5.2.

Did you run lilo after you made the changes to apply them?

And what other modes did you try? Maybe try with fewer colours?
