[SOLVED] Unable to Install Vector Linux 7.1 Keyboard and Mouse not Recognized

After burning the VL64-7.1-STD.iso to DVD I tried to install this distro to a 64-bit desktop with an i7 Intel processor.
This desktop was custom built and is only 2 years old.

As soon as the installer loads and takes me to the first screen to start the installation the mouse and keyboard are not recognized.
The same thing happens with a Live USB flash drive.

The keyboard and mouse are made by: Roccat and have worked well with a handful of Linux distributions.

I tried passing 'noapic' to the boot line but that isn't working.

Any ideas on what else I could try?

Looks like the kernel on DVD is unable to handle USB on that motherboard. Is it all USB3? Any USB2 ports to try?

The computer tower is in a very inconvenient area that I can't get to.
Is there another workaround?

Not sure, never had such a trouble myself. You could see if there are any "cheat codes" to pass to Vector kernel to force different USB settings.

I've never used cheat codes. Any clue where I can find them and what there functionality is?

If I had this problem I'd boot something else (I carry SystemrescueCD on USB stick in my pocket) and run lsusb -t to see what hardware you have. You need to know what driver is loaded and what USB version is use.

I'll look for my SysRescue CD later on this evening and run lssub -t.

The mouse and keyboard 'Kone XTD'were manufactured by Roccat.

After a little research I'm also going to try going into the BIOS and enabled the IOMMU if it's disabled. It worked for a few folks in a couple of threads I found online.

Checked in the BIOS in IO configuration and in Peripherals; no setting for IOMMU to be enabled.

See, you have everything plugged into USB3. But there are USB2 ports in this system. My guess is Vector kernel for some reason cannot handle USB3 on this motherboard.

I talked to the Roccat developer that built the drivers for this particular keyboard and mouse about a year ago. He explained he made sure during the build that the hardware would be compatible with Linux.

A handful of distributions have been stable on this desktop so this leads me to what you've said:
kernel 3.18 just doesn't seem to be working along with this mobo, keyboard and mouse.

This motherboard has USB2, everything you have plugged in is into USB3. I'm 99% sure if you use USB2 Vector will recognize your USB devices.

Is the keyboard and mouse going to have to stay plugged into the 'usb2 port' after the installation?

I'd say likely, yes. Unless you figure out why Vector kernel cannot handle USB3.

Thank You Emerson for the clarification.

The owner of the machine said: "all of the USB2 ports are on the front of the machine and that will not work for me".

Looks like I'll be performing a fresh installation of either FC 24 or Gecko Linux in place of VL.
