File Server/network & FAT32
Hello All,
Before I start please note that I'm new to linux so I'm sorry if I'm asking stupid questions.
I'm trying to set a file server using VectorLinux 4.0. I'm using an old Compaq 2262 (Cyrix 233 with 256MB ram). I have installed VL on to a 2Gig drive. I now want to put a FAT32 drive in it which contains all my files. I then want to access all these files (and write to the drive) via my Windows network.
So far I have managed to browse the shared files on my Windows machine from my VL machine using XFSamba. I cannot figure out how to make files/directories on the VL machine accessable over the network. How do I do it?!
Once I've figured out(/been told) how to access the files the next step will be to mount the FAT32 drive and share that. How do I this?
Another lesser problem I have is that I have to disable power management (apm=off) to boot the machine (if I don't it just hangs while loading). I guess this is bad news for a file server which I intend to have on 24/7. Is there anyway around it?
Cheers
Benedict
