linux server not able to network with other pc using win98, 2000 & XP
Hi. I just get myself a new customized business comp program (Foxpro based) using Linux server connected to 4 PC using windows 98, 2000 and XP.
I also have another computer workgroup (4 PC)using windows XP. I am using DSL internet connection.
My problem is I cannot have all the computer into a single network. If I connect the computer to the server, I cannot have it connected to the internet . Also I am having problem because of the different OS.
My set up is :
DSL to ADSL to computer to LInksys router with switch to Hub (1st workgroup)
2nd workgroup - Linux server to hub to computers
I really am newbie on Linux.
What should be the correct setup. My friend suggested that I should have 2 lan cards.
Is that the correct solution?
Thanks in advance .

hmm. i don't actually know what you are saying here, it sounds more like a network setup issue to me.
i presume you have all the computers set to use the same internal network space (such as, say, 192.168.1.x with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0)?
or are you saying that the broadband connects via a modem to one pc and therefore you need to share the internet connection? in this case, which pc does it connect to? the linux pc? if so, you would be better off with a broadband router with a switch or hub built in as it'll save a lot of time and effort sharing it out, especially if you are very new to linux.
could you elaborate more on the problem?
