XGL and Compiz PROBLEM on PS3 Ubuntu 8.10

Hey guys! Yeah, I'm back with more PS3-Ubuntu problems, hahaha! I'm on 7.10 still, but I have compiz working through xgl (which xgl is the only way I can get compiz to work). On 8.10 and on, xgl has been removed. I want to update, but I dont want to lose compiz and xgl. So my question is, can I somehow find and copy the xgl package onto a usb drive while I'm still on 7.10, and then install xgl when I install 8.10? That way I can have xgl working on the newer version and have compiz running too. Thanks guys!

You could install the packages from 7.10 into 8.10, but there is no guarantee it will work; especially with software as complicated as Compiz and X. The 7.10 packages would have been built against older libraries that may not be backward compatible with the newer releases in 8.10.

Especially if XGL has been removed in Ubuntu 8.10, then none of the software in the distribution would have been compiled with support for it.
