XGL/Compiz on Ubuntu with ATI Radeon XPRESS??

I have a laptop running an Ubuntu/XP-MCE.

If I can get XGL to work then I would more than likely ditch XP altogether.

My laptop has an ATI Radeon XPRESS, and I'm having a really hard time getting this working.

I have been following the guide here http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Xgl-Compiz-Dapper but nothing I do seems to work.

can anybody help me?

Unhappy

Im not entirely sure, I have followed the instructions to the letter, It all seems to go fine, but when I try to log into an XGL session, it just throws me back to the login screen or hangs...not only that but my screen res is screwed in my default gnome session now. It's meant to be 1280x800 but now it wont let me go more than 1024x768.

I dont know what has happened

What sort of details should I provide?

How about posting the contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log from the last time you tried to startx.
