Hello,

I just downloaded a package (Camorama Web Cam Viewer) from the repository, and all is well. That does not, however imply that I'm using similar HW, or that Ubuntu didn't automagically set up *my* drivers. It did work first try though.

Best

Camorama, Cheese, or any other webcam software should set things up for you. What have you tried using so far?

I have done some looking around and it seems that your machines webcam is not supported by Ubuntu and Dell does not have a driver/firmware for Linux. The only thing I could suggest is you try a newer kernel from backports or try a liquorix kernel.

Your camera is built in, but it may still be on the USB bus. If so try https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UVC

You might want to hunt around on the Dell site. Last I knew they have a repo.

People I am pretty sure are still getting the connexant dial up modem driver there for instance.

If they maintain the repo still I would look for your driver there.

They also have a Dell Linux user mailing list. Thought I still had the address but can't find it.

Thanks. I followed your links to installed nvc . But when I typed svn checkout svn://svn.berlios.de/linux-uvc/linux-uvc/trunk in my terminal and prompted svn: No repository found in 'svn://svn.berlios.de/linux-uvc/linux-uvc'.
