usb port will read a flash drive, and recognizes camera but cannot download photos

Hi Staff )))

I am new here and new to Linux. Hope that I choose the right part of the forum for this question. Am using Pop_os and understand that it is Ubuntu based... is it? Now understanding that it was not the best first choice, and am considering just going to Ubuntu to have more of a common distribution. Anyway... tried to download some photos with no luck.

Message reads:

Canon Digital Camera is locked by another application. Please close any other applications that are using the camera and try again.

Cant see any other working applications... what could be wrong?

Typically the camera is simply mounted as a mass storage device. Then the download tool (shotwell or whatever) can't mount it. The simple solution is to take the card out of the camera and use a card reader to upload the photos instead of directly connecting the camera.
