Exclamation Suse 9.3 recognizes my linksys wusb1.1 ver 2.6 wireless adapter but still cannot get

I no nothing about linux and recently installed suse pro. 9.3. it recognized the adapter (linksys wusb1.1 wireless-B version 2.6) but i still cannot connect to my home network or get online. it needs to connect to my router in the house (linksys wireless-G) i know that its got to be some simple missing information that it needs but i am unfamiliar with linux. I do not know my way around this operating system. Ndswrapper or whatever is all greek to me! can someone please give me some step-by-step instructions on getting it done? i am unable to obtain the chipset ID because 'linksys' says they will not give me that information. dont know how to use it anyway if i were to get it! HEEELLLP!

got to do some reading ...

check the ndiswrapper wiki

might find something at

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...der=descending

ndiswrapper takes your windows driver for the card and uses them in linux.

you need the .inf and the .sys files for your card (if you installed the drivers in windows they will be in the installation folder)

good luck

You must get more specified, and find where the problem lies. First: can you connect to the computers own networkdevice ? Of course it is not easy to know your own IP-adress, if you use "dynamic" IP.

Go into yast --> networkdevices -->Networkcards and configur it. Give it a STATIC IPaddress, and acertain that your router etc are right.

When ready ping your own IP-adress . If successful ping your routers IP address . If successful ping your ISP. When I say ping I mean "ping -c4" ( or the computer will ping forever) (you could also install "fping" which pings whole networks)

If lucky, these simple measures could solve it. Anyway, with the results, somebody might be able to give practical advice. Personally I would put my bet on some firewall-problems, or that something is forgotten in the network configuration. ( When the computer confirms that the adaptor works, it only means that it can move data between the outside and the inside of the case.)

The same expression is used for two different configurations. Ndiswrap is for the hardwareconfiguration, but the problem might be in the networkconfiguration. It is all very confusing.

To be clear, we should not talk about configuring the network adaptor, but about configuring the wlan- or eth0- connection.
