K3B for dvd burning, beats anything in Gnome

Kstars (one of Linux's truly cool programs)

The rest of KDE's Edutainment suite.
Are you asking which one you should use?

Most of that stuff can be installed in GNome, using synaptic. It will handle the dependancies, etc, fine. I have all of those programs on my Gnome install. One thing it can't do, is make KDE's footprint "smaller"... I'm not sure the differences between KDE and GNome's speed are so extreme, that the average user will notice it.

Now personally, I just put Xubuntu on my Laptop after having Ubuntu on there a while, and ther is an improvement in performance, but my understanding, that is to be expected with Xfce over Gnome/KDE.

AkBrian -- Nautilus also has full path browser style. Just click the icon to the left of the location bar and it toggles between the two location modes. I prefer full path as well.

"Are you asking which one you should use?"

Really just a comment about the original question.
