Sound problem plzz help


I am using ubuntu 6.06 and having very low sound output. There isn't any sound option to change in the sound tab. I have increased both my system and speaker volume bar to highest level but dont get a good output....
plzz help me

Let's do a safety check first... ensure that the cables are properly connected and they're clean. Bad connections can cause bad volumes.
Second, double click on the volume taskbar icon. You'll get a mixer screen with a few channels. Now, go to edit->preferences and activate all possible checkboxes. Then, ensure that their sound is all the way up. Sometimes, the Master volume is high but the PCM (which is regular audio in my case) can be lower.

I was just wondering that why not my 4 speakers are working. I have changed the settings under xine player to 4.1 speaker but not all of them are running, just two of them are working... Plzz help me

Could be a backend engine issue, but I haven't fiddled a lot with sound though to be sure. You should look for info on gxine+alsa.
